About Us

We are passionate about home composting.  Although we live in a city, we grew up composting and thought every family did it.  Compai was inspired by our eighth grade science fair project on home composting, when we were surprised to learn that most families did not compost.

We also learned that composting can help save the planet.  Food and yard wastes, when buried in landfills, decompose anaerobically (without oxygen), and produce methane which is 20-50X more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. That’s not to mention the local air pollution created by hauling wastes to the landfill and then managing the landfill for decades.  A well-managed home compost creates no methane; it captures carbon in the soil and can replace chemical fertilizers.  The result is that home composting is a net-negative CO2 process!

With all this in our heads, we realized that we could make a difference if we got lots of families to compost the 800 lbs / year of organic wastes they create instead of throwing it in the trash. The idea for Compai was born. Our vision is to get one million families to compost at home. We hope you will join us!

We are proud to be a Gen Z, women-owned, inclusive, family-run, mission-driven social enterprise – the business part of it is to help us scale and have a bigger impact.  We are solar powered and when we need to drive, drive an EV.

We are also proud to be supported by Hamilton County RESource, the Prudential Emerging Visionaries program, and the Taco Bell Foundation Ambition Accelerator!
